The Aloe Vera Plant – Its Many Faces

Aloe Vera also known as the miracle plant, the medicinal plant belongs to a species of juicy plants that is assumed to have been originated in the southern part of the Arabian Peninsula, Northern part of Africa, the Canary Islands and Cape Verde. This plant grows in dry climatic regions and is found widely in Africa, India and other dry, parched areas. This plant has been associated with medicine for it multifaceted healing properties and there have been many studies that prove that the Aloe Vera extract is extremely useful in the treatment of cuts, wounds and for healing burns. These properties are attributed to the presence of compounds like polysaccharides, mannans, anthraquinones and lectins.

Typically this is a plant that does not have a stem and are plants that grow to about 60-100cms height and gives off shoots. It’s green or grey-green leaves are thick and fleshy. It has also been grown as an ornamental plant and is a great hit in modern gardens.
